Default Category ideas

Have you thought of having categories for the major directory types, things like Blogs, Articles.

This isn't a bad idea. Perhaps we will discuss this.

Most general directories have a section for blogs, articles is a little harder unless you want to list article directories, articles themselves is another ball game.

This sounds like a great idea. What other categories would you suggest we set up besides "Blogs"?

Other ideas we have been considering are:

(1) Add a "directory of directories" to the site for members to submit their directories to?
(2) Add a sub-forum for each major directory script with a brief description as well as a demo for members to play with and where they can post questions, comments and mods.
(3) Add a better way for members to showcase their directories perhaps even adding a directory battles section similar to PagePower Directory Battles
(4) Add an articles/blog section featuring articles of specific interest and benefit to directory owners.
(5) Develop and implement a new custom site layout, logo and promotional banners unique to TalkDirectories.com

Would love to move forward with improving the site. Looking forward to your replies!

Thanks for the feedback. Good point on the rss feed. Should be able to get that in place fairly quickly since its a standard feature with vb.

Any thoughts on adding sub-forums for directory products and a "Directory of Directories" web directory to the site (basic free directory for members and definately not any type of bidding directory) Integrated into the site something like this directory?

Agree with your comments regarding the look of PagePower Directory Battles. We were not looking so much as the design but more at the the concept of adding some type of directory showcase that would "feature" member directories better than the basic forum which we now have setup.

With regard to site design, our web developer has suggested we consider going with a custom full width template design which would look less like vb stock template but instead, something unique to TalkDirectories.com. Less colorful and dramatic than our suster site TalkDev.com Forums - Web Development and Web Design Forum but a look unique to TalkDirectories.com just the same.

Perhaps adding a blog /article section featuring quality articles and information focused on all aspects of web directories including link building, directory design and development, directory products and reviews, marketing and promotion could be a benefit to our site and our members as well.

Really appreciate learning your thoughts and feedback on all this.

Thanks Kyle.

How about a Directory Top Sites section?

Anyone else care to offer an opinion or suggestion for site improvements they would like to see?

Would like to move forward on the Category section idea so how should we begin?

Nice work there Down.

Personally Scott, I think the directory of directories would take off if we added it to TalkDirectories.

Cheers, with the directory of directories, the only thing i can suggest is that you keep in mind quality.

There are directories and there is crap, dropped domains acting as some high PR domain, scam bid directories, scam gen directories, just plain crap MFA supposed directory sites and the list goes on.

If you want people to take your list serious and attract people to the site then the more work and effort you put into providing the best resource the better.

Load it with crap and it will drag your site down with it.

Thanks DownUnder,

Appreciate the feedback. All good points you raise and I agree, we need to ensure our directory of directories is well managed. Would you be interested in giving us a hand?

Scott, where i can i will help, i suppose one question i would have is this, why make a directory of directories ?

The reason i ask is this, what would your directory of directories offer that some others do not ? can you improve on some existing ones or will it be the same ol same ol.

Please do not take it the wrong way, as it is positive up beat feedback. But if you can't give a good answer to that would be more inclined to look at perhaps some other option that sets things apart from whats out there just now.

I am sure there are many ideas that could work and do not dismiss the idea.

Regardless my name is mud at the moment as i have been banned from DP by some uniformed mod who has falsely claimed i have a duplicate account.

So if i could make one recommendation for a top forum as you go, have good moderators and you will have a good forum regardless of any bells and whistles.
