Default SEO? any truth to this?

I have always been a little frustrated by the fact that good serach engine rankings relied on "static web pages" versus the normal database-driven dynamic content. It seems to be a popular and (truthful??) belief that Google a few others don't take well to a query string. Which is a real pain in ass for people like me.

Is this really true? Does it really make that much of a difference?

Looking for feedback on this...
