Question Investments

Hi,

Seen as gold is at a near record high (A sign of hard times coming!) and the dollar is at it lowest level with sterling since 1981 and at a near record low with the euro, (and the chinese have a trillion dollars in reserves which they hinted at diversifying into other currencys which could weaken the dollar further).

Besides burying a few tins of beans out the back garden would you consider well established revenue generating websites as a goog long term investment? or would you stick to property?

Well,

I have seriously been looking at getting into virtual real estate as the way I see it is that you can buy a house for 300000 euros and the return from rental would be approx 1000 a month (if you were lucky) where I see websites producing a couple of thousand a month going for 10 months revenue.

Will take the plunge one of these days and start building a portfolio of serious revenue producing sites.

Well if you know something about economy, you surely know that normally revenue is correlated with risk.

On efficient markets, normally the higher risk you take the higher reward, websites are a high risk investment so normally they produce higher rewards.

I frequently buy and sell websites to offline people who are looking to invest. Online websites and domains are now active real estate and it's definitely a good investment for the future. No dot com bust any time soon.

Hi Nick,

Do you mind me asking what software tools & valuation model would you use to analyze a website?

Tommy

Almost the standard or market value tools:
  • Revenue over the last 6 months
  • Age & domain strength (keyword relevance, extension, etc.)
  • Traffic
  • Pagerank and Alexa Rank
  • Content
  • Niche future
Information like this is essential in the risk of investing.
