| Just hoping to open up some discussion on this because frankly I am torn. I agree that it is good to be open with traffic to a point, but what point? I do not see any of the very well known directories such as JoeAnt, Business.com, Aviva or Skaffe posting their traffic data. In fact in one post a member of JoeAnt said they never would release specific traffic data. Earlier this month I decided to post my traffic for February on site and my traffic that day promptly dropped. I deleted that post and it came back the next day higher than it was previously but it set my paranoia bells to ringing. So the question is it bad business to post your traffic stats with any kind of specifics as has been suggested? After all it is a competitive market. Is it bad luck to openly post or tell anyone your traffic with any specifics as my paranoia bell keeps chiming? Maybe there are search engines watching....Or lastly is it better just to not have to put up with all the people who then want to say that the traffic is purchased or some such nonsense because they don't want to believe it anyway. This is the one that frankly irritates me the most. EDIT : I guess there is one other option - To forget about all the above and allow for all the third party traffic tracking scripts to be placed on site to give completely open access to traffic data. | I see no problem in it. I have nothing to be scared of showing or hiding.

| Same as Mike, I see no drama's with it although maybe if your new or have lower visitor rate then it may be more prudent to keep it in house. Regardless of shown or not, moving forward i will be asking any site that i wish to advertise on for these figures. This will enable me to establish if the fee being asked is reasonable or not and from that make better business decisions. People who pay big $ for low impact / return from advertising in comparison to other options should also be requesting this information. From memory Zyas was including a widget for VR ? but i am not sure if this is running yet as i know he has other stuff on his plate of late. To give an example i can get say 1000 plus views a day by sponsoring a forum i know for around 1K / YR which on maths gives me 365K views $1000 / 365 K views = .003c PV on a target market, when you way that up with say ( wild guess ) 3000 views PM at a cost of say $100 PM you get $100 / 3 K = .03 PV this represents a 10 fold in price for my money, and the sums are easy for all to do What must be pointed out is also the target audience, it is no good having a cheap PV if that site is say a dog food site and your selling kites, your just wasting your money, so compare apples with apples. There are also exceptions to the rule ( for me any way ) where a site may be a little higher P than i want but the target audience is in my sweet spot ( the main factor ) so i would pay more for this. Lastly keeping records of hits / conversions would also help with further advertising campaigns, but ad content / display also play a part. For example this site up the top 3 spots, very sweet and exactly where i would want to park my ad ( and no i am not part of the site ) Sorry if it seems to go off topic a little but traffic is 100% important in the above and related to anyone wanting to promote their site. | |||

| Well I certainly have nothing to hide with the traffic I get. Every once in a while I will give Mikey a shout with an updated number. I will think about it a little more and may start doing a monthly post on my traffic numbers. Edit: Following your lead downunder with the mention of that forum I should have mentioned that I know of a directory that received 50,800 UV in March and offers main page exposure currently for $4 a day. ![]() Last edited by Botman; 04-01-2008 at 06:05 PM. | |||

| I dont see any big deal in showing or hiding traffic, it is good for directories with large traffic to show there traffic and directories with little or no traffic we not show there traffic to anyone.

| IMHO, traffic detail (or PR, or alexa rank) is your marketing tool. If you have good traffic and ranks, displaying them help you promote how exposed your directories are. Of course, like what Lovely said previously, showing traffic detail for directories with little or no traffic doesn't make any sense at all. Cheers!
