shield The Secret Behind Bid Directories

The newest emergence and by far the hottest item in the directory industry right now is bid directories. The concept of bid directories is simple, bid the highest - rank the highest. But, as easy as it sounds, some of the major bid directories out there are a lot to swallow, at least financially.
By the numbers on first page top bids:
Big Web Links - $3,000.
Web Directory List - $1,050
Blaze Directory - $1,000
Web Directory Bid - $901
Dollar Linking - $763
CDHNow - $600
Many directory owners have been really put off from the high first page values and some don?t understand the underlying secret to the bid directories.
Bid with Moderation
There is no need to shell out $1,000 per link. If you think about it, that?s a bad decision in itself as you can be building more quality links in the meantime instead of investing heavily in 1 place. Do it in moderation and over time your rank will increase.

hmmm...I need to disagree here... You need to decide why you might want to bid high...
There is a reason that others are

1) traffic
2) exposure
3) branding

If it is for a back link or PR then I agree with you it is a waste as you can get other high PR back-links for much cheaper. But if you want to be a "house-hold" name and get some real traffic. Maybe it is worth it.

What do you think? Did anyone know who Beacon-Directory was 3 weeks ago?

I need to update the article, it is old and outdated, but figured I'd post it because it does have some good information.

By the way, the comment on the $1,000 per link.

That's more directed to users who don't have the current capital to spend, I need to make it more clear.

For those users, it's a better option to bid low and add in moderation to get the same result.

Catch my drift

That's a very good point... build your bid is a great strategy... I just think branding and ummmm... what's 'old W say "shock and awe"... are well worth the expense... at least in the bidding directory advertising world..

I still don't understand why people consider these listings expensive ....

It is all about ROI

Look at the latest numbers we have for Big Web Links Directory - Bid for Position Permanent Directory
Alexa = 24236 Yahoo inlinks = 895782

What if I believe that BWL is generating their own traffic on the order of 5000+ visitors per day or 150,000 per month?

At this rate, if I invest $1000 the CPM is $6.60 or a little over a half cent per impression ... or view.

Quote:
Assuming the link was deleted at the end of one month.

Of course we all know that bid directories are permanent links, so even if you are outbid referrals will NEVER drop to zero as long as the directory is active.

However to make calculations easier lets assume it is completely removed at the end of the calculation.
On one site I make an average of $1 for each visitor ... if on average only 33 of these visitors per day click through for that one month (CPC=$1.00) I stand to break even. That is only 0.66% or about 1.3 visitors per 200 impressions.

Again this assumes the link was deleted at the end of one month.

The longer my links lasts the lower my cost ... at three months I only need 11 clicks per day (CPM=$0.0022/CPC=$0.333) and at 6 months only 5 per day (CPM=$0.0011/CPC=$0.166) to break even.

If all you want is a LINK then bid in moderation. If you want TRAFFIC be selective and be decisive ... bid high and mean it.

By the way these links are immune to click fraud ... unlike CPC ads.

i dont think bigweblinks gets 5000/day. It gets a lot, but not that much

One day my alexa went to 9000. Traffic was 1200 that day, so that gives you a good estimate of people traffic in comparison to alexa

I agree with Mike, Well Alexa is not always correct ! But the CPC point made earlier is a real vaild point.
