The list is sorted by page rank from the directories that were announced in this forum.

I have included the number of in-bound-links from Yahoo Site Explorer (using Except from this domain, Only this URL), and for perspective the number of new links added since May 28.

Comments:

It seems as far as links go there are never enough! Most directories have increased their links substantially since the last update. I use this measure to see which directories are being advertised and if the owner is continuing promotion ... what do you think?

Advertisers for Back-to-School sales in the fall, will be looking at the page rank you earn this time around. The next 3-4 weeks are crucial for meeting the next PR update. Expect the toolbar PR to be updated about July 21-22... with the cut-off, sometime around the first week of July.

June should be a great month for bid directories ...

Comments:
There seems to be an increasing number of sites with negative link growth this time around (10 sites), and overall slowing of link growth for most sites.

This could indicate that owners are moving on to other projects, tapped out budgets, or link consolidation.

I want to hear from directory owners --- why are so many sites losing links?

Personally I have changed my advertising strategy over the last few weeks ...
I am now focusing on site visibility and links that are likely to improve traffic. Of course I am still bargain hunting for those under-rated directories.

Sorry about putting comments in a second post ... I seem to be having difficulties formatting readable lists, and even more trouble trying to edit them. If there are any easier ways to do this please let me know.

Comments:
I am examining Bid Directories more closely now that we are approaching another PR update. I expect the cut-off date is in the next 10 days or so. We should be seeing increased activity from Googlebot this coming week as well.

Do the number of links indicate popularity?
This week I was looking at Alexa Rank and the number of links going to each directory. As usual there were a few surprises at both ends of the scale. My guess is that forum sigs and sitewide links are not big traffic generators. So we should be watching for low quality linking strategies.

While most will agree that Alexa is quite subjective, most bid directories are targeting the same or similar visitors, so we should be able to use it for relative ranking.

Of course it also helps to offer something that brings in visitors as well ... like higher PR, niche coverage, or broad based advertising. I am still not convinced that search engines bring in independant traffic ... especially for directory terms.


Is Alexa good for ranking bid directories relative to one another?

Glad to hear that, it would be silly to cheap out right now with a PR update just around the corner. I am doing the same thing ...

I think this update is going to be very important for bid for position directories --- a watershed moment. It will prove the value of bid directories as an industry, and at the same time establish the market leaders.

There won't be room for any more excuses after this PR update!

It will certainly take a lot of the guess work out of bidding.
