Default Review time frame for a directory editor

I submitted regularly my all sites to almost all directories especially when it launch new. Sometime I found many directories do not approve timely. Some times, they do not complete their review for a year long. Is this not unethical & unprofessional?

What is your suggestion about the time frame for reviewing a site maximum?

What is your experience in this regards?

Ya i too see the same thing...
Many directory owners do not approve listings for months.

My free directory is always open for submissions and i approve the submissions to a max. time of 1 week, but regularly check in everyday
But we cant say about other owners as we are expecting a free link from them, so no comments!

I check my husbands (papadave) directory several times a day to keep up on submissions. In my opinion, paid submissions should be reviewed asap and should never take more than a day. Free submissions should also be reviewed in a timely manner, if not the same day than definitely no more than a week.

It takes time to submit to directories. If a directory owner isn't prepared to keep up with his submissions then he/she should either get help or close submissions. If too many directories provide inferior service, it can only harm the reputation of all small directories in general.

Either provide the service or don't offer it!

I responded to a post at DP that sort of fits in here. Anyway, I was looking at a post advertising a new directory. The stats showed 400 something active links and 1,900+ pending links. To me this said the owners isn't doing a very good job keeping up with her/his submissions and probably not worth my time/money submitting there.

If you operating a free directory, you're going to get tons of submissions and should be prepared to spend lots time edited/approving them.

Paid directory owners absolutly needs to keep on top of their submissions and approve/disapprove them in a timely manner...no more than a day or two max. I look at this much like any other business. If a client/customer pays for a product or service, it's your job to make sure you deliver and not expect them to wait for ever.

I have an ecommerce website and if I waited two or three weeks to ship an order I doubt I would stay in business long.....same with this business....repeat customers, referrals and your reputation goes a long, long way

To me, this hints of a directory only interested in paid or featured submissions. I'll generally avoid submitting to those directories.

Me too.

Although I think paid submissions should be allowed three days (one day seemed a bit extreme), but definitely less than a week in ANY case.

As for free directories, you get what you pay for. I guess we should appreciate getting the listing when the owner can get around to approving it. Of course, it's always best when it is timely.

I think 3 business days is more than reasonable for paid submissions, I'm sure that the majority of them are reviewed sooner.

I review submitted sites within at most 24 hours, usually within 12-6 hours of payment.

If I'm online and see a site submitted, i review it right away.

Well said. I generally don't worry about review time on free directories. Its usually lower if the directory is new. Just submit and move on, don't worry about it.

Paid directories I'm prepared to wait up to a week for the editor(s) to review my site.

Depends on the type of directory your submitting to.

Free - be happy if they ever review and include your site as it is FREE.

Paid - should be reviewed within 24 to 48 hours remembering that sometimes there are holidays. though i have personally conducted reviews on holidays before.

Paid Directories usually review within a few days. Obviously like Botman said, there are problems with this. Illness, PC problems and holidays can make it hard to review on time.

I think some times Free directories get spammed a lot & moderating all the links takes a lot of time. I was a owner of a free directory that got around 250 submissions on a daily basis and 90% of the listings had to be deleted.

So keeping up with free submissions can be really tough.

Yeah I agree Amit. There can be several steps taken to review the sites quicker and get the crap removed.
