Default Anyone created a directory with a cms like Drupal?

I was looking for guidance on how to create a directory using Drupal or another CMS. I want to use a CMS so I can include community features for the members since I am building my directory for a small niche.

Does anyone have any experience or ideas on the best approach (cms, modules) to accomplish this?

I am not aware of drupal cms , but i am building on a dotnetnuke base cms.

With this system the base is free to download and there are many free modules, but once you start into the modifications and depending on who you get to do the work, the costs can run into many thousands, with the system i have set up now well over 10K and counting, you will also probably have extra hosting fees than normal, and extra data base fees depending on what it is your trying to achieve.

With that there may be some directory scripts that could meet your needs. The advantage of building from the ground up is you are able to build whatever you want, the disadvantages are extra time and costs to develop and implement all options.

the site is still in beta with another round of mods and updates to be undertaken that will probably set me back around 5K but from there its hoped stage one will be complete and ready to roll out.

you can tryinhere to view it, any questions yell out.

Yes, UM, i have already intalled blog, forum, chat, and probably at least 10 other comminity based functions that will all be implemted during the stages as the site moves forward, (your depth of pockets will allow you to do anything you want basicly) for now it is just about getting stage 1 right, and thats the listings, so a lot more work to do yet, chhers for the compliment

That really sounds awesome! (Minus the depths of your pockets =p) Seriously though, I think I may take a in-depth look around at your site and check out some of these features and how well they integrate into your site.

I had a directory (which is no more ) which was based on joomla, it was nice and very easy to handle as well, not sure about drupal though.

Yes I have seen a few Joomlia sites with a very nice directory setup. Have no idea what the module is but it sure looked nice.

Joomla has a directory component. Is more like a business directory but very flexible.
