When we submit our website to a directory under a particular category we find related websites.I immediately go in for a link exchange with websites under the same category.Will that give me more back links???.

Yes pretty much, I have heard people say if you trade links some spiders will recognize that as a reciprocal and it will lower or at least not increase PR. I really don't know about that but any link back to your site from a decent site is a doorway for visitors. Quote:

I think that is a bad strategy as most people who try to exchange links via email never respond because they presume it's spam.

Link exhange is one thing that I do not pursue for link building. It would have to be a killer link for me to want to exchange this way. | ||

Depends on your site. Exchanging in-content links with similar sites can be very effective, if not over abused. Test it and see how it works.

I don't think that Link Exchange is the best solution now for building links (unless you are getting one-way links)  | ||

I agree mikey. We usually get with our workplace about 4-5 emails a day asking us to link exchange. Usually they want a sitewide link for a rubbish pr link, or a rubbish pr link for a nothing link. Either way, it's not worth it (despite how much they plead!)
