I believe that having a blog on your directory is one of the best ways to promote it. Do others here have a blog as well? I get most of my traffic thru my blog.

Yeah, blogs are a great addition to the directory. It allows the owner to connect with the submitters and also offer some insight on what's happening with the directory, etc.

I also encourage everyone to make their directory blogs exciting in other ways. Directories are not always that exciting. People will find you thru any sorts of keyterms. Marketing and branding wise anything cool you put on the blog can pay off in the future. Of course, we all want targeted search engine traffic, but never underestimate the power of branding, and the more people you can reach, the better it is.

A good example of this is Aviva Directory.

Jeff has a lot of blogs that target different niches on Aviva.

I have notice this and now have about six blogs, starting with www.searchtified.com/blog in January. Aviv is a prime example of the success you can have with having a blog along with your directory. It's a pretty good sites with alot of contents to read and it keeps keeping me back.

I set a blog a few months ago and that's why my alexa rank went up.

An addition to any site will only become a commodity when promoted.

I just have to be blunt about it. Aviva does it best, and it was an innovative and inspiring thought when put into place. From what I've seen on most of the others is nothing but the same thing (for the most part), so I just visit aviva when I want to know what's up.

I like the idea of a blog, added an article section with some good unique articles yesterday, just wish I had more time to put into it.

Most of my blogs have now a PR, one a PR5 and a 2 PR4's and 1 Pr3, 2 new one din't get any, but will this summer i'm sure. a Blog helps ot drive traffic to directories, right now it's not as much, but every little traffic helps.

I have a blog on two of my most successful directories 2SearchSmart.com and 2ListNow.com - Both are now PR4 and it gives me a chance to do a little extra promotion.
