Let's be honest here ...
Do you really believe your link is going to remain in position when you submit to free or paid directories?
Many are sorted by PR and my listing gets pushed down each time a high PR listing is added. Some are sorted alphabetically so the later letters are constantly being pushed to new pages. Others are sorted in reverse date so older entries are pushed down.
Then we have the webmasters who reorganize their categories every other week.
The point is I am never surprised if a link is moved no matter what kind of directory it is.
At least with a bidding directory I can add a few bucks and correct the situation. Otherwise I just write off the directories with 'static' links since there is nothing I can do.
The only gamble here is that the directory owner might take YOUR money and make the directory more valuable to OTHERS.
