Default Bidding for Page Position

Once you have selected a directory and even the page where you want your link there is still another decision to make.
Where should you position your listing?

1. Top of the World.
Holding the #1 position on a page will offer the the highest click through rates, but be prepared to defend your link.
If the perceived value of the directory increases you may have to increase your bid to discourage competitors.

STRATEGY: Take a #1 position and hold it, even in a few directories, as this increases your visibility as well as credibility.

2. Middle of the Road.
After the first 3-5 bidders there is a often a gap where prices can drop dramatically.
While traffic may be somewhat lower than the leaders you gain the same credibility and trust rank.
You can often bid into this price break and obtain links at a significant discount from the page leaders.

STRATEGY: Bid to the middle of the page. These links are less competitive and also tend to be less volatile.

3. Bottom of the Page.
Remember all links on the same page receive the same link value (page rank) regardless of the position.
The last link on a page also offers a cheaper entry, but it also includes significant risk.

STRATEGY: Be prepared to monitor these links frequently as they could be bumped off the page with any new bid.
